New interim manager for troubled care home Blackwater Mill

The manager of a troubled Isle of Wight care home is due to leave next week – just months after her appointment.

In a letter to residents and relatives seen by the County Press, it was said Natalie Fielding has decided to leave her role as home manager of Blackwater Mill next week.

She was only appointed in September.

An interim manager, Helen Ganfield, will be joining the team today (Sunday, January 12).

The letter said: ” Unfortunately, Natalie Fielding has decided to leave her role as home manager next week.

“We wish her all the very best for the future and thank her for her dedication during her time with us.

“To ensure a smooth transition, we are pleased to welcome Helen Ganfield, a highly experienced interim manager, who will be joining us on Sunday to take over the management of the home.

“Helen brings a wealth of experience in care home management, and we are confident her expertise will be invaluable in continuing to drive forward positive changes at Blackwater Mill.

“We remain fully committed to ensuring the highest standards of care and support for all our residents.

“To support this, we have a consultant working closely with our team to guide and sustain improvements.

“Additionally, Tracy from Kingland House, another home in our group, and her head of care, Maxine, will be providing hands-on support.

“Tracy will be visiting Blackwater Mill two days a week and will also be on-site this weekend to ensure continuity of care.

“Helen will be available to meet with residents and relatives in the coming weeks, and we hope this will provide an opportunity to discuss any questions you may have and get to know her personally.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work together to make Blackwater Mill the best it can be.

“We are committed to ensuring that Blackwater Mill remains a safe, supportive, and welcoming home for all our residents.”

Blackwater Mill was placed under special measures in October last year, following a damning CQC report conducted in March and April.

The report said that inspectors witnessed staff making hurtful comments about residents in front of them, and residents had ‘little social or emotional interaction’ with staff.

This week, the Isle of Wight Council has said they are helping the CQC provide extra care and support to residents of Blackwater Mill.

No new residents are currently being accepted.
