Inspiration on offer at this year’s big event
The freshest looks, the smartest solutions and the most influential voices from the home-improvement and lifestyle industry will be on hand at the Vancouver Fall Home Show, which runs from Oct. 23 to 26 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. More than a marketplace, the show is a forecast of possibilities for your home this season.
Show coordinator Maddie Lemieux says more than 250 exhibitors will present the latest home-improvement ideas and design trends for the home and garden during the four-day event.
“This year’s show is packed with information, new products and tailored advice for anyone looking to transform their home and garden,” she says. “We’re also thrilled to welcome Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, along with a fantastic lineup of top culinary presenters.”
Attendees will be able to access plenty of tailored advice and acquaint themselves with new home-related products, notes show coordinator Maddie Lemieux.
Home Network personality Bryan Baeumler is a perennial favourite among home-show audiences. Charming, funny and an encyclopedia of construction know-how, he will be joined on the Main Stage by his wife of 21 years, Sarah, to discuss their new television series Building Baeumler. The 10-episode series, which premiered on Home Network in September, follows the couple and their four children as they expand their resort in the Bahamas, renovate a hotel in the Florida Keys and fix up their lake house in Ontario.
“This [show] is about more than just banging nails and painting walls. This is about the decision-making process, how to execute the project, how to fund it and how to navigate a marriage and kids. More behind the scenes, more raw,” Bryan explains. “We’ll also share some of the mistakes we’ve made along the way and how we fixed them.”
The Baeumlers’ Main Stage sessions will also delve into new home technology and what that means for the home environment and people’s health.
Notes Sarah: “That’s something I’ve been dipping my toe into the past year. Being in the Bahamas and having that simpler way of life, we’ll talk about what it means for people in this day and age and how we can help people create a healthy home for their family.”
New to the Cooking Stage is a season one winner of Chef vs. Wild, which streams on Disney+.
Chef Tushar Tondvalkar says his appearance on the reality show gave him new appreciation for locally sourced food in B.C. The founder of the Indian Pantry will soon open a new restaurant in Vancouver called Kavita, which combines native plants foraged in the mountains or locally grown with the spices and ingredients from his home province in India. The result is what he calls modern Indian, a cooking style for which he is most noted.
Chef Tushar Tondvalkar will soon open a new restaurant in Vancouver called Kavita.
“I’ll be cooking on the Main Stage with products I have created at the Indian Pantry, like my home blend garam masala,” Tondvalkar says. “I also have a chai concentrate, so we’ll be serving some chai. The chai you get at coffee shops here in Canada are cinnamon heavy and not like what we drink back home.“ More people are into experimenting with new cuisines and flavours and that’s really great to see.”
Special features at the show this year include the Bloom and Build Pop-Up Flower Shop, where floral experts will demonstrate how to arrange flowers like a pro.
The DIY Centre with Shannon Evans from Home Network’s Renovation Resort will help showgoers nail some new skills. Workshops at the centre include Hanging with Studs, Anchors and Other Methods, Repairing Drywall 101, Tape Measure Basics, Reading and Marking, and Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Tips and Tricks.
