Cavan and Monaghan public invited to apply for new sustainable home management course

Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB), in partnership with the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS), has launched the new course titled “Managing the Sustainable Home.”
An official launch event was held last Thursday (August 29) at Johnston Central Library in Cavan. CMETB and MABS, in collaboration with the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB) and the Northside Partnership, initiated the innovative programme, which has been validated by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
The event celebrated the collaborative effort among each of the agencies to develop and validate the course in bringing it to the market for learners. According to its organisers, the launch was particularly timely and relevant, given that sustainability is a crucial issue in today’s society.
CMETB representatives say the QQI Level 3 Special Purpose Award in Managing the Sustainable Home aims to enable learners to apply sustainable practices to everyday household management. By covering three specific areas: Budgeting and Financial Management, Sustainable and Healthy Food Provision and Sustainable Use of Energy and Utilities.
The local ETB detail how learners who complete the course will gain a solid grounding in the three pillars of sustainability (environmental, economic, and social) and how these relate to effective, efficient, and sustainable household management.
“The development of a new programme takes vision and we are proud to see this vision come to life today, offering learners a unique opportunity to enhance their household management skills sustainably,” said Dympna McCarron (Director of Quality Assurance and Enhancement Services, CMETB).
CMETB chief executive the Dr Fiona McGrath reiterated those remarks, saying the onset of the course represented the culmination of dedication, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability amongst its various stakeholders.
Manager, North Connacht and Ulster MABS, Karl Cronin said its availability to enrolees aligned with the organisation’s overriding mission in providing essential money management education with the wider public.
“We are thrilled to offer learners the knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively and embrace sustainable living. This programme empowers individuals to make informed decisions and lead more sustainable lives.”
